National Training Courses
The National
Training Courses for Potential Umpires are organised and run on an area basis.
They are headed by the Development
Officer who coordinates a panel of National Tutors and
ensures that our teaching methods, course structure and content are uniform.
Potential
Umpires
New recruits will undergo a three stage training programme.
- Stage One
is a written open book theory paper,
- Stage Two is the 2 day practical seminar
and finally
- Stage Three is the examination which will be held on the second day
of the seminar
Continual
Assessment
The Training and Development of Umpires is an ongoing process and each
qualified member must attend a two day practical seminar every four years.
Whilst attending that seminar an assessment will be carried out on your
competence of the measuring exercises and your deportment and knowledge.
You will not be examined.
County to National Upgrades
Umpires wishing to upgrade from County Level to National Level must also
attend a practical seminar but in addition you will be expected to pass a
written theory paper, pass a series of practical measuring exercises and answer
a range of oral questions.

Some members
have questioned the need to attend these training days! - Continued development
and improvement to maintain standards of Umpiring are paramount to your success
and our reputation.
The following document provides some justification for the need
for continuous development.
"Why do I need Assessing"
A Training
Manual has been produced and is provided to all new candidates as part of
their Practical Seminar.
