Mr. John Davies.

It is with regret that we have to report the death of John Davies of Dorset.

John had been the Area Secretary for the South West area of the Association for many years, only having stood down earlier this year. John was a familiar face in the Umpires Office at the National Championships at Worthing for many years and was made a Life Member of the Association in April this year.

John was also a Director of the World Bowls Tour and a regular face behind the scenes at WBT events .

John's funeral will take place at Poole Crematorium, Gravel Hill, Broadstone, Poole BH17 9BQ at 2:30pm on Wednesday 2nd August, followed by refreshments at Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club, Waterloo Road, Poole BH17 7LG.

Applications are invited for Umpires and Markers who hold a Certificate of Competence to apply for duties on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2017 at Leamington.

    It is with regret that we have to report the death of our previous Secretary Mr. Richard Moore.

    World Bowls Law Change.

    Members attention is drawn to the changes to Laws D2, 52.1.3, 52.1.8.4 and 53.1 which were passed at the World Bowls Council Meeting held in Christchurch, New Zealand on 5 December 2016.

    In short this removes the requirement for large grooved rings on the non-bias side of the bowls.

    Transparent frame measuring device.

    As from the start of the 2017 outdoor season the use of the "Transparent frame measuring device with concentric circles" will and must be allowed to be used by all players during their game, as per World Bowls directive.

    They are not for us to use as a marker or umpire and they will not be part of our official kit.

    Indoor Laws

    With effect from October 2016 the WIBC have introduced new Laws of the Sport of Indoor Bowls

    There are only minor differences to five Laws.

    Your Executive Committee have agreed to send all paid up umpires the latest copy of the above for free, when the Secretary receives your 2017 subscription. Those that have paid in advance will be receiving them in early December 2016.
